Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, increasing potential profit.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money you have set aside for betting, separate from everyday finances.
- Bet Builder
- An online tool that lets you create a custom bet by combining different outcomes from the same match.
- Cash Out
- A feature allowing you to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Cashback
- A promotion that returns a portion of your losses over a set period, usually as a bonus credit.
- Edge
- Your perceived advantage over the bookmaker, often based on knowledge or data that suggests a bet is undervalued.
- Free Bet
- A bonus token you can use to place a bet without risking your own money; any winnings are usually yours to keep.
- Handicap
- A points adjustment made to one side to create equal betting appeal, used in soccer to balance uneven matchups.
- Juice
- The commission that sportsbooks charge on bets, usually built into the odds, also called vigorish.
- KYC
- Know Your Customer – the process of verifying a player's identity to prevent fraud and comply with regulations.
- Live Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is in progress, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Moneyline
- A simple bet on which team or player will win a match, with odds shown as positive or negative numbers.
- No Deposit Bonus
- A small amount of bonus funds or free spins given just for signing up, no deposit required.
- Odds
- Odds express the likelihood of an outcome and determine how much you can win if your bet is correct.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total combined score of a match will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A bet that combines two or more individual wagers into one; all selections must win to receive a payout.
- Point Spread
- A handicap applied to the favored team to level the betting field, requiring them to win by a certain margin.
- Provably Fair
- A system that uses cryptographic proof so players can verify that each game result was fair and not manipulated.
- RTP
- Return‑to‑Player (RTP) tells you what percentage of total bets a game pays back to players over time.
- Self‑Exclusion
- A tool that lets you voluntarily block your own account for a set period, helping you control gambling habits.
- Stake
- The amount of money you wager on a single bet.
- Unit
- A standard measurement of bet size, often representing a small percentage of your bankroll to manage risk.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving you a positive expected return.
- Volatility
- Volatility measures how often and how much a game can pay out; high volatility means bigger but rarer wins.
- Wagering Requirement
- A condition that says how many times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings.
